LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Coach Ruben Amorim has pledged to stay with Sporting Lisbon after leading the club to its second Portuguese league title in four seasons.
Amorim has been linked with moves to clubs including Liverpool, but he said he does not intend to leave. His contract expires in 2026.
“I’ll stay with Sporting,” he said. “I have a contract and this is a special moment for me and for the club. We will try to win a third title together.”
Sporting clinched the league on Sunday after Benfica lost at Famalicao 2-0. It is eight points ahead of second-placed Benfica with two rounds remaining.
The 39-year-old Amorim, a former Portugal midfielder, has coached Sporting since 2020 and led the team to the league title in his first year in charge.
Sporting is also in the Portuguese Cup final, where it will face Porto on May 26.
Amorim spent the majority of his club career playing for Benfica.
